IDEA/CONCEPT

This piece explores the theme of creation and humanity’s relationship with the divine. The central figure represents God, gazing down upon humanity, who remain unaware of His presence. From His hand, a pendulum radiates light, symbolizing the eternal link between divine illumination and the higher self. Below, people move in shadow, oblivious to this connection—except for one figure standing on a cliff, bathed in light. This solitary figure signifies awakening: the moment of recognition and the cycle of returning to the source of divine consciousness.

EXECUTION & PROCESS

This artwork was created using traditional stained glass techniques. Each element began as a detailed design, carefully planned to balance symbolism and composition. The glass pieces were individually selected for their tonal qualities and light transmission, ensuring that the divine figure and earthly realm contrast both visually and conceptually.

The process involved:

  • Hand-painting on glass: Using vitreous paints and silver stain to achieve depth, shading, and the luminous golden tones of the divine figure.

  • Kiln firing: Multiple firings were required to fuse the painted details into the glass surface, creating durability and richness of color.

  • Layering and assembly: The upper section, depicting God and the pendulum of light, was executed with precise brushwork to evoke classical strength and spiritual authority. The lower section employed vibrant blues and greens, achieved through washes and matting techniques on hand- made coloured glass, to suggest the earthly realm and its ethereal light.

  • Leading and soldering: Each piece was cut, leaded, and soldered by hand, reinforcing the physical and symbolic connection between the two planes.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Ignorance and bliss often walk hand in hand. This piece speaks to the quiet strength found in moments of solitude—where reflection, pain, and hope coexist in a delicate balance.
